dpreview has already tested the new Sony a7R III (Amazon/B&H/Adorama)’s pixel shift mode. According to dpreview’s sample images, the Pixel Shift mode looks very useful compared to other cameras, as dramatic improvement in sharpness.
Landscape, cityscape and architecture photographers will absolutely love this new feature paired with the already excellent sensor in the a7R III – as long as they steer clear of (or clone out) moving objects in the scene. The increase in resolution and decrease in aliasing Pixel Shift brings is obvious in both our studio scene and real world result. It’s frankly dramatic in the latter.
The US release date for Sony a7R III is at the end of this month. You can pre-order Sony a7R III at Amazon/B&H Photo Video/Adorama/Focus Camera. See also: Sony a7R III In Stock Tracker.
